West Coast Agronomy Manager

Hazel Technologies is searching for an experienced and self-motivated Agronomy professional to establish and develop the Hazel West Coast Center for Postharvest Excellence (Fresno) facility from the ground-up and contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic goals.

Position Description:  

The West Coast Agronomy Manager will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer. This position will have the following areas of responsibilities: overseeing the Fresno agronomy research facility, managing the Fresno team, engaging key customers, and managing postharvest trials.  The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership, communication, commercial acumen and organizational skills. This position is, first and foremost, a people management position. Applicants should be excited to develop professional talent of their reports at Hazel.


  • Oversee operation of a field research and customer support facility, working closely with the CTO and VP of R&D.
  • Develop the technical and professional talent of your reports in technical support and research roles.
  • Will lead a West Coast science team on a day-to-day basis (6-10+scientists), including oversight of facility operations and personnel.
  • Oversee all Hazel west coast operations to include customer interactions, demos, tours, field research and in-house research.
  • Engage with customers 30-50% of their time, with remaining time dedicated to R&D operations.
  • Host customers at the Fresno facility.
  • Support team members as they manage postharvest trials to ensure all trials, assignments and procedures are conducted to a high degree of excellence.
  • Lead early product testing and liaise with the broader R&D team on technical projects and Business Development on commercial projects.
  • Lead technical support for West Coast sales team.
  • Interface with academic personnel in California and within region where needed.


  • Industry experience in agronomy or agrichemistry, 7+ years preferred
  • Experience managing technical people in a research or field support context
  • Experience coordinating complex efforts with and between different divisions
  • Graduate degree in applicable field
  • Excellent people skills
  • Experience interacting with customers in agronomy context
  • Spanish language skills preferred
  • Open to travel up to 25%
